Sunny warm days turn into lovely cool nights and the volcanic soil
begins it's magic.
Great Wine Starts Here
Why CHIRICAHUA REAL ESTATE?
Before you spend thousands of dollars to buy land for your Vineyard you must carefully evaluate the site you have chosen…
You do want your grapes to be happy!
What is the Chiricahua Bench?
As you drive East on HWY 181,
to find the “best possible land”, you will pass Ash Creek School on your left. From there look east straight in front of you and you will see the beginning of the Bench. The highway begins to rise up into the foothills at mile marker 47.
Why The Chiricahua Bench Matters
The highest point on the south end of the Chiricahua Mountains is at 10,000 feet. At that elevation nights can be bitter cold…single digits. Cold drops and rolls down the mountain, into-and-out-of the vineyards and rolls on down the hill until the land flattens out just west of mile marker 47 and there the cold begins to settle in for the night and can freeze the properties to the west!
Note to self:
Get as close to the Mountain as you can.
(It does not work every time. The dead of winter can sometimes cause the damage or loss of some vines…Consider the potential cost of replacing some vines. Get to know your neighbors, learn from their vast experience!)
Have the soil tested
Companies in this area are available and reasonable. Clearing the land…there are experienced crews with the right equipment to get the job done! You will want an irrigation well, based on how many acres you plan to plant…get bids from the best drillers. If the land has a domestic well on it, you can buy a larger pump and you can make it work…Wine grapes only require Drip Irrigation on timers helping to conserve our Aquifer. This is just the beginning.
